Finca Julia sits in the midlands of Icod de los Vinos, in north-west Tenerife. Neither in town nor up the mountain: at the midpoint, which is where everything is under half an hour away.

How you get here

From Tenerife Norte (TFN) it is 45.7 km and about 43 minutes on the TF-5. From Tenerife Sur it is considerably further, and that is the sum to do before buying the cheap flight.

The last stretch is a surfaced country lane, with some narrow, steep sections. It is paved the whole way and no 4x4 is needed, but do the first trip in daylight if you have never driven Canarian midland roads.

The house has free street parking right outside and self check-in: the instructions come through Airbnb and you let yourself in whenever suits.

A car is effectively necessary. Buses cover the north coast well — line 363 calls at Icod, Garachico and Buenavista — but not the midlands.
