How many people does Finca Julia sleep?
Four. There are two bedrooms, three beds and one bathroom. It suits two couples or a family of four, not large groups.
Where do I book?
Only through the official Airbnb listing. The calendar, the price and the current terms all live there. This site handles no bookings or payments, and we publish no prices so as not to quote a stale figure.
Do I need a car?
In practice, yes. The house is in the midlands and access is by a surfaced country lane; buses cover the north coast well but not the higher ground. The listing itself says so and we would rather repeat it before you book.
What is the access road like?
A surfaced country lane the whole way, with some narrow and steep sections. No 4x4 needed. If you have never driven Canarian midland roads, do the first trip in daylight.
Is the outdoor shower hot?
No. The outdoor shower is cold; it is the patio one, meant for after the beach. The indoor bathroom works normally.
Is the second bedroom fully private?
Not entirely: the partition wall does not reach the ceiling. We say so here just as the listing does, because it is exactly the sort of detail worth knowing beforehand rather than on arrival.
Is there WiFi?
Yes, the house has WiFi and its own outdoor parking. Check-in is self-service: you will get the instructions through Airbnb.
Is it suitable for children?
It is a country house with steps, a patio and uneven ground around it, so with very small children it is worth thinking about. For families with children who walk confidently it works well, and there is a beach, a butterfly house and caves minutes away.
Are there insects and animals?
It is a house in the countryside and you share it with the local wildlife: lizards, birds, the occasional insect. The listing advises keeping doors and windows closed. It is not a city flat, and that is rather the point.
Does it rain a lot in northern Tenerife?
More than in the south, but less than people fear: according to AEMET's normals for the Tenerife Norte station, the wettest month is around 80 mm and from June to September it barely rains. What summer does bring is the 'panza de burro', a layer of low cloud over the coast that you drive through in twenty minutes.
Is it far from Teide?
Icod de los Vinos is one of the twelve municipalities with land inside the National Park. There is no direct road up from the town: you climb via Chío on the TF-38 or via La Orotava on the TF-21. No official body publishes an exact drive time, so we do not quote one: plan the route the day before.
Can I visit the Cueva del Viento without booking?
No. Booking is compulsory and online, groups are capped at fifteen and the minimum age is five. It is in the same municipality as the house, so it is one of the first things to book once your dates are set.
What is the tourist registration number?
The Canary Islands registration number is VV-38-4-0101103, exactly as it appears on the official listing.
Is there a hospital nearby?
Yes, and it reassures a lot of people: the Canary Health Service's Hospital del Norte is in Icod de los Vinos itself, at Buen Paso, with adult and paediatric emergency departments. For emergencies, dial 112.
