Eating, shopping and ordering in from Icod de los Vinos

Icod is not a place where you order dinner at eleven at night. There is no 24-hour supermarket in the municipality or the ones next door, Glovo and Just Eat do not operate here, and delivery comes down to a handful of phone numbers. None of that is a problem if you know it before you arrive, which is what this page is for.

First: nothing is open 24 hours

We checked this specifically, because it is the most common question. The obvious candidate would be a petrol station shop, and both in the municipality close: the Carrefour Express at the service station on the main road opens 6:00 to 22:00 every day including public holidays, and the shop at the town station opens at 5:30 on weekdays and closes at 21:30. That is the widest window there is around here.

Supermarkets

If you want to eat at the house

Delivery here does not work as it does in a city. Just Eat has not one restaurant in postcode 38430: its area page returns only the charity entry that appears all over Spain. Glovo keeps a city page for Icod that looks convincing, but open food or supermarkets and it says, literally, that there are no establishments available. Uber Eats does reach Icod, with two places. And then there is what people actually use here: phoning the restaurant.

The supermarkets deliver too: the three HiperDino and SuperDino stores in Icod, the one in Los Silos and the Carrefour Express all state it on their official listing. For a stay of several days that usually works out better than ordering prepared food.

Eating in Icod de los Vinos

Those that publish their opening hours carry them below exactly as they publish them. Those that do not appear without hours, rather than with invented ones.

Eating in Garachico, six kilometres away

Garachico is 6.2 kilometres away by road, about ten minutes, and has considerably more choice than Icod for its size. The list below is the one its own town council publishes, complete and unfiltered: it gives name, address and phone, but not opening hours or type of cooking, so those fields are left empty.

Icod has no farmers' market in the Cabildo's listing. There was a weekend market on Plaza de Andrés Lorenzo Cáceres, but the last municipal news item about it is from August 2023 and concerns a temporary closure, so we do not know whether it is still running. If it matters to you, the town hall is on 922 86 96 00.

Breakfast and brunch

Two uncomfortable things first. One: **not a single café in Icod publishes its opening hours anywhere**. The council has a hospitality directory, but it gives only names — no address, no phone, no opening time — and Turismo de Tenerife does not name one single venue in the town. Two: **there is no brunch in Icod**. Not one. We went through the whole municipal directory.

What we do know is where they cluster: Calle San Agustín and Calle San Sebastián are the café streets of the old town, and Icod's own tourism site says so. Walking down and reading the sign on the door is still, today, more reliable than any website.

Actual brunch: four places, and you must book

It is not the speciality-coffee brunch you might expect if you come from a big city. Here the format is **a set menu, usually for two, in a restaurant with a view, booked in advance**. That said, they are good.

• **Mirador de Garachico** — the closest, about 10 min. Brunch with Canarian produce: breads and pastries, granola, Teno smoked-cheese cake. **€40 for two, €20 each.** It does not publish which days or hours it is served; general hours are 9:00–17:00. Note: the address on its site and the one in the municipal directory disagree — call first.
• **El Club Café**, Plaza del Charco, Puerto de la Cruz (about 30 min). The only one with a published, daily brunch window: **every day 10:00–12:00**, Sundays included. €17.90 or €22.90 per person depending on the menu.
• **FU Café**, Puerto de la Cruz (about 30 min). Brunch **Saturdays and Sundays 10:00–14:00, €29.90 for two**, with vegetarian and vegan options. It opens at 8:00 on weekdays, so it doubles as an early breakfast.
• **Mirador San Pedro**, Los Realejos (about 25 min). A restaurant on the cliff, open 10:00–23:00 daily. Brunch days, times and price are not published in readable text.

Breakfast at home, with local produce

It may be the best plan of all, and it is the one with the best sources. **Molino de Gofio El Amparo** is in Icod, at Calle El Aserradero 24, stone-milling gofio from maize, wheat and five grains: **Monday to Wednesday and Friday 8:00–18:00, Saturdays 8:00–13:00, closed Sunday**. Why there are no guachinches on this list

Because we could not find any public register of licensed guachinches, from either the Canary Islands government or the island council. The ones in Icod that circulate online appear only in aggregators and review sites, and publishing a phone number or opening hours taken from those is exactly what this guide does not do. On top of that, a guachinche may only open while its own harvest's wine lasts, so any list of them goes stale within weeks.
