Icod de los Vinos · What to see
Exconvento de San Francisco de Icod
The Franciscans arrived in Icod in 1641 and their friary is now the town library. It is worth stepping into the two-storey cloister, with its exposed Canary pine, and looking at the central fountain, crowned by a marble Neptune. Next door stand the church of San Francisco and the Dolores chapel, with its carved wooden ceiling.

Casa Lorenzo Cáceres
A neoclassical townhouse facing Plaza de la Pila, within Icod's historic quarter; work began in 1798 and finished around 1814. Its three floors surround a central courtyard where wood stands out, with two Tuscan columns of Canary pine heartwood and wooden arches and joinery. Today it holds municipal offices and exhibition rooms, so you can go in and see the courtyard.
Casco histórico de Icod de los Vinos
A Historic Site listed as a Bien de Interés Cultural under Decree 142/2004. Compact and remarkably well preserved: an hour or two on foot links Plaza de la Pila, San Marcos church, the former San Francisco convent and Calle San Sebastián.
Plaza de la Constitución (Plaza de la Pila)
Icod's main square, opened in September 1632. Locals call it Plaza de la Pila after its 1716 stone fountain with a circular basin and four spouts. Grand old houses with heavy pine woodwork line it.
Plaza de Andrés de Lorenzo Cáceres
A raised square beside the church of San Marcos, built on the site of a Bernardine convent destroyed by fire in the late 18th century. The council accepted the proposal to turn the site into a square in 1904, and since 1908 it has borne the name of the Count of Sietefuentes, one of its promoters. It has laurel trees, a stairway lined with neoclassical urns and two fountains with lion-head spouts, and is the setting for Holy Week and the San Marcos and Cristo del Calvario festivities.
