The three mysteries of the north closest to the house, with what is known and what is not said plainly. The only thing to book is the cave, and it books up in advance.

The plan, step by step
First thing
Cueva del Viento, with a guide
The largest lava tube in the European Union runs under the town. You can only go in on a guided visit booked on the official website; no children under 5 and no backpacks.
Mid-morning
The dragon tree and the unanswered question
They call it a thousand years old, but it has no rings: estimates run from 350 to 2,500 years. Partly visible for free from the square and in full from the Parque del Drago.
To finish
Garachico, on the lava of 1706
On 5 May 1706 seven lava flows buried the island's most important port. Walk the old town and go down to El Caletón, the pools the lava left when it met the sea. The legend of the marble street is told here.
Good to know
The stories and their sources, each marked as legend, history or hypothesis, are in 'Mysteries and curiosities of the north'.
