Anaga is at the north-eastern tip, which is to say the opposite side of the island. From Icod it is a full day, not an afternoon trip. But it is Tenerife's oldest landscape — seven to nine million years — and it looks like nothing else near the house.

Start at Cruz del Carmen
It is the visitor centre and the starting point for the most accessible routes: the Sendero de los Sentidos, with three short variants suitable for nearly everyone, and trails PR-TF 01, 10 and 12. It has parking with accessible bays and toilets, so it is the logical place to plan the day from.

The Taganana road drops from El Bailadero to the north coast, where the open beaches of Almáciga, Roque de las Bodegas and Benijo lie, with the sea stacks behind. It is one of the best-known images of the Canaries.
