A day on Guayota's volcano
The National Park told through its stories: what the chronicles say, what is modern legend and what geology explains. Check the summit weather before you leave: it can be cloudy below and clear above, and the other way round.

The plan, step by step
In the morning
Up Guayota's volcano
The chroniclers say the Guanches placed Guayota, the force of evil, inside Teide. The version where he locks away the sun is a modern literary legend. The cable car climbs to La Rambleta; the summit needs a permit.
Around midday
The Roques de García
Remains of the wall that divided the two calderas of Las Cañadas. Roque Cinchado, with Teide behind it, is the picture on the old 1,000-peseta note.
In the afternoon
The Eggs of Teide
On the Montaña Blanca route, black lava balls on white pumice: pieces of the peak's last flows that rolled downhill.
Good to know
It is cold up there and the sun burns harder: bring a warm layer, water and sun protection even if it is fine below.
