The plan, step by step
First
The Mariposario del Drago
A tropical glasshouse next to the park, with over eight hundred butterflies flying free and the whole cycle on show, from caterpillar to chrysalis. One of the few fully indoor places in the district, and with small children it buys an hour of calm.
Then
The dragon tree, whole
A short, flat circuit through the Parque del Drago, with a Guanche cave and viewpoints. Under-sixes go free. If spirits flag, you see the crown from the square in twenty minutes and move on.
To finish
San Marcos, the beach in the cove
Black sand in an enclosed cove, which is what makes it the family beach of the municipality. Showers, toilets, restaurants on the promenade and under fifty parking spaces: better before noon.
Good to know
The Cueva del Viento takes children from five, but it is two and a half hours with helmets and stairs: we leave it for another day, and booked ahead.
