The dragon tree, the old town on foot, the cave in the afternoon and San Marcos beach to finish. It is the day with the least driving and the one that orients you best: by the end you understand how the slope is laid out.
Day 2 · Coast
Garachico and the El Caletón pools

Six kilometres of road, nine minutes. The town buried by the 1706 lava flow, and the natural pools that same flow left as it met the sea. You eat in the old town itself: the municipal directory lists twenty-nine places.
Day 2 · Afternoon
Punta de Teno, if the day allows

The island's north-western tip, with the lighthouse and the Los Gigantes cliffs opposite. Important: private cars are banned every day. You go in on the 369 bus from Buenavista, or by taxi.
Day 3 · Summit
Teide National Park

One hour and seven minutes up from the old town on the TF-21. It is the day that changes landscape three times — fruit trees, pine forest, lava field — and the one to do with a clear sky. If you are taking the cable car to La Rambleta, book it.

Chinyero on the way back

Coming down through Santiago del Teide you pass Tenerife's last eruption before 1971. The trail is flat and crosses the lava flow itself; there is no shade, so mid-afternoon beats midday.

Good to know
The order of the days is interchangeable except for one thing: do Teide on the clear day. From the Icod midlands you can see the summit from the terrace, so the call is made over breakfast.
