First, the honest part
Getting down to town is not a walk
Finca Julia is up in the midlands and the old town is below. You can walk down; walking back up in the heat is not something we would recommend. This day starts with a short drive or taxi to the old town, and from there you do not need one.

The whole old town on foot

The Historic Site is genuinely compact: the dragon tree, Plaza de la Pila, San Marcos and Calle San Sebastián are within a four-hundred-metre radius. The municipal tourist office is on the same square.
Midday
The bus to San Marcos or Garachico
Line 363 links Puerto de la Cruz, San Juan de la Rambla, Icod, Garachico and Buenavista, and calls at Icod bus station. It is what turns this into a coastal day without a car. Check the timetable with TITSA, who publish it.
Afternoon
Garachico on foot

You step off the bus and you are already there: the old town, the seafront and the El Caletón pools are all connected on foot. It is the northern town that copes best with not having a car.
Good to know
For Punta de Teno the bus is not an alternative, it is the only option: private vehicles are banned every day and you only get in on line 369 from Buenavista or by taxi.
